Educational Grants
Educational Grants and Village Organisations
The basic intention of the Trust is to support children and young people under the age of 25, who incur expense in the pursuit of their further education; those who are attempting to establish themselves in a trade or profession; those who have special educational needs and disabilities; or those who are gifted and talented.
The Trust will also consider supporting Mature Students and Village Organisations to assist in training and development for the betterment of the community.
There are of course, a wide variety of educational opportunities available and many people take advantage of these for many reasons and in many different ways.
To clarify the position of the Trust the following policy is set out:
1) Accredited courses in Further/Higher Education
The Trust would normally assist students who are following nationally accredited courses, whether full-time, part-time, or available through distance learning.
2) Apprentice and training for trade or profession
The Trust would normally help with the costs associated with the resources necessary to undertake training in his/her chosen profession.
3) Special Educational Needs and Gifted Young People
a) Special Educational Needs & Disabilities – The Trust would normally assist towards the additional expense, which is incurred because of the existence of a special educational need or disability in a child of school age.
b) Gifted Young People – the Trust would normally assist in the development of a particular gift or talent in a young person in the parish.
4) Mature Students
In exceptional circumstances the Trust would consider assisting those whom are mature students seeking to improve or extend their career development possibilities. Such mature students would normally be expected to be following nationally recognised courses, or to provide evidence that the intended qualification is recognised within the relevant career area.
5) Village Organisations
As part of its giving to education, the Trust would normally seek to support village organisations. Any member of such an organisation who is seeking to develop skills, abilities, or is seeking to enrich the organisation should apply to the Trust for financial assistance.
6) Special Cases
The Trust is always open to applications from all people who feel they need support in education. Each case will be considered on its merits and the decision of the Trustees is final.
The Trust would not normally assist with the following:
7) School children and tertiary college students
Those who are following courses offered by the Local Education Authority, or some other body, which are free of charge.
8) Hobbies and Leisure
Those who are following courses of education or instruction associated with a hobby or diversionary pursuit.
How to apply for Educational Grants
If you feel that as an individual, you satisfy any of the categories listed and have lived in the village for at least one year all that is needed is an application form obtainable from the Clerk to the Trustees or by downloading the form at the bottom of this page. This must then be submitted by the end of February together with particulars of the expense incurred.
Individuals applying under items 1, 2, 3, or 4 above should complete the application form and attach evidence of the expense incurred.
Individuals applying under item 5 above should complete the application form, attach evidence of the expense incurred and attach a letter to support the application outlining:
- Their connection with the village
- How many group members currently live in the village
- What training purpose the grant is assisting with
In general, as much information as possible should be provided to enable the Trustees to reach a decision easily. Currently the maximum grant for individuals is £100 per annum but this amount may vary subsequently at the discretion of the Trustees.
Students in further/higher education are entitled to this assistance 4 times on an annual basis. NB: This does not have to be consecutive years.
Individuals acting for village groups or organisations are entitled to the assistance on an annual case by case basis. NB: Only one application in any one year.
In all respects the Trustees are anxious that good use should be made of the funds available, modest though they may be, as the purpose of the Trust has been, from the beginning, to be of benefit to those who live in Welton.
